DLT Architecture Studio

Exceptional office space design with natural materials

We had the pleasure of working together with an architecture company - One Line Studio - in creating their new office space in Denver Colorado. They are known for creating simple and creative architecture solutions through innovative thinking to add value to their clients and their projects. So naturally they wanted to use dowel laminated timber (DLT) as the main building component in their new office space design to also showcase it to their future customers. The CEO Tim Politis asked "How can we ask our clients to try new things if we are not willing to test it on ourselves, first?".

Creating a building that tests new thoughts, explores sustainable materials and techniques while finding inventive design and construction solutions was our customers quest in creating this architectural studio.

"Forming a figurative ‘line’ between the ground and the sky, a canted naturally rusted steel wall anchors one end of the structure while a thin roof edge ascends toward the sky beyond, framing a large expanse of glass between.  The glass expanse is interrupted by a series of vertical cedar fins that minimize glare within the office and appear to climb vertically toward the sky from the native grasses below.  The spacing pattern of the vertical fins is based upon a derivative of the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical pattern that occurs frequently throughout the natural world," describes Politis his new studio.

The customer was captivated by the benefits of dowel laminated timber (DLT) for its ability to serve as a structural and finished wood panel system. And liked the added benefit of the raw surface smelling like wood - heightening the human senses and absorbing reverberating sound - an ideal acoustical environment for an office.

We supplied One Line Studio with the exterior cedar accents and 3000 sqft of stacked Wood100®DLT panels. A fluted finish was used for interior walls, mezzanine floor and roof. A flat finish for the exterior roof. All the panels were pre-assembled in our production facility and shipped in two parts with a loading sequence that made installation on site for the general contractor fast and efficient.

This building is a true testament for sustainable and biophilic design, illustrating the simple beauty of natural wood.
